![]() Facility orientation guide Memphis Air Route Traffic Control Center. Air route traffic control centers (ARTCC). ^ Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).Memphis Center is broken down into 37 sectors divided into six and areas and Traffic Management Unit (TMU). ZME overlies or abuts many approach control facilities (including Memphis, Fayetteville, Nashville, Huntsville, Jackson, Little Rock, Chattanooga, and Columbus AFB). Memphis Center lies adjacent to five Air Route Traffic Control Centers: Fort Worth Air Route Traffic Control Center, Atlanta Air Route Traffic Control Center, Houston Air Route Traffic Control Center, Kansas City Air Route Traffic Control Center, and Indianapolis Air Route Traffic Control Center. Memphis Center covers approximately 120,000 square miles of the Midwestern United States and Southern United States, including parts or all of Missouri, Kentucky, Arkansas, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Between January 1, 2017, and December 31, 2017, Memphis Center handled 2,145,204 aircraft operations. Memphis Center is the 11th busiest ARTCC in the United States. The primary responsibility of Memphis Center is sequencing and separation of over-flights, arrivals, and departures in order to provide safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of aircraft filed under instrument flight rules (IFR). It is my hope that these spots (and new ones) will remain accessible for all who enjoy aviation and we can only preserve this by being discreet and not raising suspicion in areas near airport activity.Memphis Air Route Traffic Control Center (ZME) (radio communications, "Memphis Center") is one of 22 United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Area Control Centers and is located at 3229 Democrat Rd, Memphis, Tennessee 38118, United States When visiting any of these locations, please observe all traffic regulations and be sure not to leave any trash behind. Some of these planespotting areas are officially designated observation areas but others are located off of busy streets. Also, I have included links to live streaming air traffic control feeds where available at to listen to live ground, approach, and departure air traffic control radio for many of these airports and others around the world. There you will find the current status of arrivals, departures, enroute flights, and scheduled departures as well as weather info and links to more information about that airport. I have added a link on each airport page to go to ’s live tracking page for that airport. Simply click on any of the links to the left to go to the page for that airport. ![]() On each page there will also be links to my photos taken at each of these spots. You can click on the map to go to a satellite view on Google Maps which shows the most up to date view of each of these spots. In this guide to planespotting locations I’ll point out the best spots I have found for watching and photographing aircraft with a map and a brief description. Some airports have officially designated observation areas while at others you can find the best views in parking garages and streets surrounding the airport. The other half of my planespotting guide is devoted to identifying the different kinds of planes found at airports but now you might ask “where can I go to watch these planes?” I’ve developed this guide based on airports in cities that I’ve visited over the last 20 years or so.
